THREE Reasons You Should Have a Dessert Table at Your Next Event

Dessert is essential to every party. If you don’t have dessert did you even have a party? Most people think of cake when it comes to special events, and for good reason. Cake signifies celebration, especially as it stands like a tall art piece in the room. However, we have access to more specialty desserts for parties, so we no longer have to only have cake. Bakers are so creative they can make practically anything with dessert (have you seen @amauryguichon on Instagram?! He is amazing, check him out after you read this) With all of the creativity out there, expand your idea of party dessert and get a dessert table, and we've got the reasons why.

1. Dessert Tables are fun and interactive.

If you have a huge cake, it has to be cut and served and blah blah. Dessert tables are self serve (hello money savings), and interactive. Your guests get to engage in the desserts differently by choosing their own desserts. It’s like being a kid in one of those big candy stores. You oohh and ahh at all the choices, then make your final decision, probably getting a little bit of everything. Your guests will have a similar experience as they look up and down your table at the cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and donuts. If you’re more non traditional we’ve seen other cool desserts such as fruit tarts, hand pies/ mini pies, lemon bars, chocolate truffles, pudding shooters and lollipops. Yes. Custom lollipops.

2. You can accommodate guests with food allergies and restrictions

I often have clients who are concerned about friends and family with allergies or strong aversions to certain flavors/ food. Here is what I tell them. First, it’s your event so whatever you want to do and eat is exactly what you should order as this event is a reflection of you. Secondly, a dessert table can help you accommodate everyone. For example, a dessert table that includes cupcakes, brownies, dipped strawberries, gourmet popcorn and lollipops would be awesome for guests who may not like chocolate, and are allergic to gluten and dairy. While one dessert person may be able to produce all of these, there are a number of small businesses who specialize in these amazing creations. Sourcing all of these goodies for your dessert table will be well worth it to know that you got all the things you loved while making your guests, who may often not participate in eating desserts because of their restrictions, feel special too.

3. The Variety

This is arguably my favorite reason and really encompasses the first two points. Everyone is looking for variety. For so long we’ve been told we had to chose only cake for our parties when our favorite dessert is ice cream (it’s me). But no one thought to get Ice cream cake or an ice cream tuck for their event until now. Here are some real examples of amazing variety at a wedding.

One of our favorite weddings the bride and groom were not that into cake but wanted to cut cake and have a cake for a traditional look at their wedding. We made a cutting cake and 2 faux cakes just for looks and they had all the dessert they loved, in a room just for the dessert, donuts being their number one pick.

  • When my brother got married, I made them a traditional dessert bar with mostly chocolate flavored desserts ( their fav flavor). For added pizzazz, my mom and I rented an ice cream truck from a local popsicle place that specialized in delicious flavored popsicles, dipped in chocolate. Best decision ever as it was over 100 degrees the day of the wedding.

  • We helped create a cookie wall for a wedding with about 300 cookies on it and the caterer provide little glass jars of milk to go with the cookies. Definitely a win.

If you love cake, we want you to have the most amazing, beautiful, delicious cake EVER. But if you’re not into cake, and love brownies more, it’s time to consider some creative ideas for your event and a dessert table is the best way to do that!
